# CollegeNumbers

> Free, comprehensive aggregator of Common Data Set (CDS) records for ~360 U.S. colleges and universities. Compare admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and outcomes across schools. Multi-year history, side-by-side comparison, and federal-data overlay (College Scorecard, EADA athletics, Clery campus safety).

The Common Data Set is a standardized reporting form that participating U.S. colleges fill out annually. CollegeNumbers extracts and normalizes the responses so visitors can search any school by name and read the full admissions/enrollment/aid/outcomes profile, OR compare up to four schools side-by-side on the same fields.

## Methodology

- Per-school data is extracted from each institution's officially published Common Data Set PDF / xlsx / docx / html using a hybrid regex + LLM extraction pipeline.
- Federal data (Scorecard, EADA, Clery) is layered on top to fill gaps and provide cross-validation against the school's own CDS.
- When a school's most recent CDS is more than two academic years stale, federal data takes display priority and is clearly marked with an "IPEDS" badge.
- Quality gates run on every deploy: registry verification, value-bounds sanitization, cross-source accuracy checks, residency-row completeness, and customer-facing copy linting.
