COMMON DATA SET: 2000-2001
The Common Data Set has been developed based on cooperation between publishers (College Board, Wintergreen/Orchard House, Peterson's, and U.S. News) and colleges. The 2000-2001 CDS includes the following sections:
- Section A - General Information
- Section B - Enrollment and Persistence
- Section C - First-time, First-year (Freshman) Admission
- Section D - Transfer Admission
- Section E - Academic Offerings and Policies
- Section F - Student Life
- Section G - Annual Expenses
- Section H - Financial Aid
- Section I - Instructional Faculty and Class Size
- Section J - Degrees Conferred
- Definitions of Terms
Changes for the 2000-01 Common Data Set:
- Dates have been changed to reflect Fall 2000 and academic year 2000-01 (except for Section G, Annual Expenses, which asks for figures for the 2001-2002 academic year).
- Many of the 1999 IPEDS references remain, clearly marked as being from a previous year.
- In CDS item B2, Enrollment by Racial/Ethnic Category, a column for Total Undergraduates has been added to the grid.
- Instructions for item C1 have been clarified, further defining the cohort of applicants as those "who have completed actionable applications."
- In items E4-E7 the IPEDS lines references to the 1998 American Libraries Survey have been corrected.
- In Section H, Financial Aid, respondents have the option of reporting prior year final figures or current year estimated figures.
- In the financial aid section, as well as the financial aid definitions, NMSQT has been changed to National Merit to more accurately reflect those awards.
- Instructions for item H2,lines n-q, have been added to clarify in the intent of the questions.
- In item H4, the academic year for the graduating class has been specified (July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2000).
- In items H6 and H8, international students has been changed to degree-seeking non-resident aliens.
- The definition of Doctorate in item I-1 has been expanded and clarified.
- An unknown or other highest degree category has been added to the grid in item I-1; some of the other publishers need that number in order to accurately calculate the percentages of faculty with highest degrees in various categories.
- In item I-3, the smallest class section and class subsection has been changed from Less than 10 to 2 to 9.
- The definition for Postsecondary award, certificate, or diploma has been revised.
- Definitions for indebtedness, need-based self-help aid, and non-need-based self-help aid have been added to the financial aid definitions. The definition for self-help aid has been removed.
